1. 15 million youth need initial vocational training every year in India, the existing capacity is only 3 million
2. VE results in reduction of un-employment & inequality by giving an opportunity to all sections of the society to obtain a qualification and a career
3. It brings about a reduction in Crime among the unemployed, uneducated and disadvantaged groups of the society
4. Acts as a safety net for students who have dropped out of school due to family and financial constraints
5. India has large numbers of unemployed youth and a shortage of job seekers with critical skills
6. Given the current shortage of skilled labour, the industry would benefit tremendously if their needs are addressed by equipping students / youths with industry specific skills.

Manjunath K, an 18 year old college drop out was struggling for over 2 years with job prospects. He eagerly registered for the Rotary-Bhavan-Jeevika Retail Sales Associate Course in Koramangala with the hope that this course would open the doors for a prosperous career. He now finds himself working happily at People Store ( Aditya Birla clothing outlet ) in Bangalore using the retail and workplace readiness skills he had learned. His first week’s sales were so impressive, he topped the sales calendar!

Pooja’s father works as a coolie and does not have any regular income. He has health issues as well. Her mother works as a Anganawadi teacher and earns Rs. 6,000/-  which gets diverted to pay the rent for their house.  Pooja’s brother works as a Tennis Coach’s assistant and earns Rs. 4,000/- in which the whole month’s expenses needs to be taken care of.  The family was going through a hard time.

Under such a situation Pooja – an ambitious girl who wanted to live a decent living,  joined Jeevika skills and underwent 2 months training for Retails Sales Associate. Today Pooja is working as a Telecaller at MTN Capital which works for Star Health Insurance Company drawing a salary of Rs. 10,500/- due to her rich skills while co-ordinating with customers. Pooja’s parents are very proud of their daughter who is helping in taking care of the house hold expenses.

Divya is an ambitious girl who just appeared for her B.Com final year exams in the month of June, 2019.  Divya’s father works as a Coolie and mother as a maid. She has a younger sister who has finished 2^nd PU. Divya opened her bank account when she was in 2^nd PU and visited the bank quite often,  from then she had a dream of working in the Banking Sector.  Through Jeevika Skills,  Divya completed her Banking training, where she learned about Banking Products & Services.

Jeevika is proud to announce that Divya got selected at Karvy Financial Services as a customer service representative drawing a salary of Rs. 15,000 per month.  Divya is very thankful to Rotary and Jeevika Skills  for giving her the opportunity to fulfill her dream.

I was deeply moved when I was given the opportunity to participate and award the Certificates during the recently held convocation ceremony when I realized the sparkling eyes of the passionate youth from poor families portraying a sense of pride, self-confidence and achievement to stand on their own feet. It was then that I realized that Jeevika was teaching these youngsters to catch fish for their lifetime instead of buying them every day!
