Short Story

Raja Kaura
Am raising funds to educate needy children for LIFE. This will impact them and bring their families out of the vicious circle of poverty.

Vidyadaan

This funding initiative of mine is a campaign that is being done by me and my colleagues at ROTARY BANGALORE INDIRANAGAR to raise funds that will help educate brilliant students who come from economically stressed families. This will help them build careers and get them out of the vicious circle of poverty that has plagued their families for generations. This is being done in the city of Bengaluru.

These funds are to educate daughters and sons of farmers, maids, daily wage labor, auto drivers and transform their lives. The focus is mainly on educating them from 11th/12th grades onwards till the final year of college.

This typically costs INR 20000 per annum per student for a 5-year period on an average. What I am doing is raising a corpus of INR 2.5L which will generate an interest amount of approximately INR 20000 per annum for life in a fixed deposit. This will help us educate a students every year for LIFE. The funds we raise go to Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar which is a non-profit and any donations you make will have 80G tax benefits.

HELP ME RAISE INR 2,50,000. THE INTEREST FROM THIS AMOUNT WILL FUND THE EDUCATION OF BRIGHT CHILDREN YEAR ON YEAR FOR LIFE.

The Rotary Bangalore already funds 270+ students per annum but a large corpus fund will help us fund more and more children.

The money raised, will be given to Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar (RBI). We will also get details of which student will benefit from this. I shall then post an update on this campaign to let you know which student benefits from this.

CASE STUDIES :

Lets educate more Manjuntha’s and Ramba’s and transform their lives.  Join me in this journey.

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN

Raja Kaura

I am Raja (RajendraNath) Kaura, Co-Founder and CEO of Building Protection Systems Pvt. Ltd, engaged in construction related activities. Am an alumnus of IIT, Delhi and my co-director is my son, an alumnus of IIM. Kolkata.

Education of underprivileged is my passion and as part of Rotary Indiranagar, Bangalore, we have started this initiative of supporting higher education of students from “Below Poverty line” background starting from 11th grade to Graduation or even post-graduation if a student wants to study further.  Most of the students we are supporting are children of House Maids, Drivers, Coolies, Farm Labour etc., but have achieved 75% or above  in their 10th grade exams (Board Exams).  Despite adverse circumstances, they have managed to score in the top 10 percentile of their schools.

By providing a total support of Rs 1,00,000/- spread over 5 years, we have been instrumental in educating many students over the last 18 years of our scholarship program. Last year we supported education of 272 students and this year hope to cross 300 students. Funds generated are from donations received from our Rotary members & also support of Philanthropic organisations like Menda Foundation who are helping us in a big way.

Demand for education support is ever increasing & we are making this appeal to our family, friends & like-minded people to help us to support more & more underprivileged children. Amount generated from this campaign will be added to existing scholarship corpus & interest generated from this will be used for education support.

Please support my campaign and let us together bring light into the lives of these youngsters.

HOW YOU CAN HELP & FUND USE

We are raising money to cover the annual education cost of one needy student for LIFE. With this money in the bank, the interest will generate enough funds to educate one student for a year for LIFE. The smallest amount you contribute will help them on their journey to change the economic well-being of their families. Once the campaign ends updates will be posted to keep the funders abreast of which student benefitted and got a scholarship.

FAQs

Will we get to know details of the student who benefitted?

Yes. The team at Rotary has committed to giving us updates on which students benefitted. Once I get this information from them, I shall upload this on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiary.

What are the funding charges?

Rotary charges 0% as funding charges. There is a payment gateway fee of 2% (for both the Indian and foreign gateway) plus a GST component of 2.16%. This adds up to 4.16%. There is also an initial fee of 3000 INR which is being waived for us.

When do I get the receipts?

It takes up to 2 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to RBI The receipts will start getting processed about 2 to 3 weeks AFTER that and will be sent to you directly.

How does funding work?

Funding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly. It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries
